Home Buyers

Interested in purchasing a home? Then you have come to the right place! HFN's housing counselors will teach you all aspects of the home buying process, along with long lasting money management skills.

The first step is you must attend the Fast-Track Homebuyer Education Class taught by an HFN staff member and also through community volunteers who are involved in the home purchase industry. These volunteers include, but are not limited to mortgage lenders, real-estate agents, home inspectors, insurance agents, and new HFN homeowners who can share their knowledge and expertise about the home buying process.

Classes are offered monthly in both English and Spanish. Materials are provided, but you are always welcome to bring a pen and notebook for additional note taking.

Upon completion of the class participants are awarded a certificate. To see a schedule of classes and sign-up for a class click here.

Housing Counseling

After completing the Fast Track Homebuyer Education Class you can then meet with a housing counselor. The initial housing counseling appointment will consist of a household financial review to determine eligibility for the down-payment assistance program as well as purchasing power. The counselor will pull a current credit report (free of charge) and help you establish goals in preparation for your home purchase. Some families may be ready to purchase a home right away and some may need a little more time to prepare. Whatever your case may be, our counselors are here to work for you. They provide long-term guidance and walk you through the entire home buying process.

Down Payment and Closing Costs Assistance

Down-Payment and closing cost assistance is available for eligible homebuyers. Typically families will purchase a home from HFN’s inventory of rehabilitated properties, but can also select any home outside of HFN’s list. The amount of down-payment assistance will vary depending on the program and purchase price of the property. Income limits do apply and those vary depending on household size.

To review eligibility requirements, please see our program page for a list of current programs.
